June 8th 2007: Friends and Family
  • We have been lucky to have Dave up here for the summer for his internship. Steve and Jenna came up for a long weekend to say hello to Ashlyn and see the DC sites. Nick and Hillary stopped by too as well as Fahd and Amy!



May 29th 2007: Ashlyn arrives!
  • At 12:11 AM, Ashlyn arrived! Baby and mom are both healthy as can be. She came in at 8 pounds, 9 ounces and 21 inches. Pics are on Smugmug so you download full resolution and/or order them. The password is our first dog's name. ...and no, Brad did not pass out during the delivery :)



May 12th 2007: Nursery
  • Well...it's official. The nursery is now the nicest room in the house.



March 14-18th 2007: St Augustine, Florida
  • We met up with Dom and Kev, Laur and Trav, and Sarah and Dave in St. Augustine Florida at Laurie's beach house for four days of fun in the sun. There were munchkins everywhere! It was so nice to get together again finally. We did manage to get downtown one afternoon, but we mostly just relaxed on the beach and took it easy. Thanks to Laurie for allowing us all to descend upon the family beach house!


February 24-25th 2007: Visit Laurie, Trav, and Jax in Co
  • We flew out to Colorado for a weekend to see our new godson! He was all smiles. We had great time with Laur and Trav and seeing there new place and surroundings out there.

New Years 2006-2007: St. Thomas

  • For New Year's, we spend a week on St. Thomas snorkeling and getting some sun. We took all-day boat trip to Jost Van Dyke and St. Johns, kayaked in the mangrove lagoon, ate ourselves silly, drank great wine, and had a blast with Dan, Lesya, Mom, and Dad. Thanks for a great trip, parents!


Christmas 2006
  • We spent a week and a half in Seneca, SC with Valerie, Phil, Stephen, and David. The weather was unbelievably warm so we were able to get out on the lake one afternoon. We also visited the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC which is always faschinating.



October 2006: Fall in Charlottesville



June 21st - July 2nd 2006: Alaska
  • We went on a two-day trek through Denali National Park and a seven day cruise of a Alaska on Princess Cruises. We saw Dall Sheep, Grizzly Bears, Bald Eagles, Caribou, and Moose in Denali as well as getting a rare glimpse of Denali (Mount McKinley) itself! On the cruise we saw glaciers, canoed, hiked, biked, and whale watched while traveling from Anchorage to College Fjord, Glacier Bay, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, and Vancouver. Thanks Valerie and Phil for an amazing vacation!



May 13th, 2006: The White Demon
  • On Saturday, I bought a camper shell for the Ranger. The White Demon has <ahem> never looked better. I like to think it's an exercise in humility. At least the dogs will like it.



March 11th, 2006: Colleen and Steve's Wedding
  • We went to Colleen and Steve's wedding on March 11 (also, my birthday :) ) and had a lot of fun! Full quality pics are also available if you want them!.


February 23rd, 2006: Med School Prom
  • We had a blast at the GW Med School Prom with Colleen and Steve, Brenna and Sean, Cimmie and Chris, and Melissa and Justin! It was held at the Capitol Hilton downtown. Full quality pics are also available at snapfish.com.


  • February 12th, 2006: Snow
  • 10" of snow fell last night. The dogs loved it!



  • October 29th - 31st, 2005: Halloween
  • We all got into the spirit for Halloween this year!



  • July 22nd - July 30th, 2005: Maui
  • Melanie and I met up with my parents and Dan and Lesya on the island of Maui. We spent 9 days relaxing and having a great time. We went on a helicopter tour, snorkeled with the turtles, went to a magic show, played golf, found some great hikes, went to a luau, and had incredible food and wine. Coincidentally, we also ran into Connie, Ken and Amber Hess! Thanks mom and dad for planning a fantastic trip!



  • June 26th - July 4th, 2005: Greece
  • Melanie and I traveled to Greece with Laurie and Travis. We spent 2 days in Mykonos, 2 days in Paros, 2 days in Santorini and 2 days in Athens. We hung out on the beach, ate gyros, rode scooters, saw 3000 year-old ruins, drank ouzo and Mythos, visited museums, and had an awesome time.



  • March 10th - 13th, 2005: ACC Tournament
  • Valerie, Melanie, and I went to 8 1/2 ACC basketball game in 4 days. It was AWESOME! We saw Maryland lose in the first round, UNC go down to NC State, and Duke win the whole thing. What could be better? Nothing beats popcorn, pizza, ice cream, hot dogs, good company, and basketball for an entire weekend.


  • February 4th 2005: New Puppy!
  • Melanie and I went back once again to Churchville, VA to Spice of Life Labs to pick up our new yellow lab, Trajan.



  • January 16th 2005: New Puppy!
  • Melanie and I went back to Churchville, VA to Spice of Life Labs to have our first look at our new yellow lab Trajan.



  • November 22nd - Nov 28th, 2004: Thanksgiving
  • My mom and dad were able to visit from California for a week. My grandparents were also able to come down for a few days from Lancaster, PA.



  • October 9th - 10th, 2004: Duke Weddings
  • Melanie and I went down to Durham, NC to attend weddings for two Duke couples. First, on Saturday, we went to Kyle and Stacey's wedding. The following day, we went to Kathy and Brian's wedding. It was a busy weekend!



  • July 27th - Aug 3rd, 2004: Dan and Lesya's Wedding
  • I just got back from an amazing trip back to Ukraine to be a part of Dan and Lesya's wedding! I had a great time meeting all of Lesya's family. We travelled to Kiev, Kamyanents-Podilskiy, and Lviv. The whole trip was a blast thanks to great planning by Dan and Lesya. Thanks guys!



  • May 28th - June 5th, 2004, 2004: Hawaii
  • We just got back from a 10 day vacation to Hawaii (Kauai and Oahu). We were there with Melanie's family. We snorkled, took a helicopter tour, played golf and tennis, hiked in the Waimea Canyon, went deep sea fishing, took a catamaran tour of the Napali Coast, visited Pearl Harbor and the Arizona memorial, and took a sunset cruise of Waikiki. We had a great time! Thanks Valerie and Phil!



  • April 20th, 2004: New House!
  • Melanie and I put on offer on a house in Falls Church and it was accepted! It is a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath Rambler right near the East Falls Church metro station. It is only a 7 minute walk to the metro. It has a big back yard for Chase too!



  • March 21st 2004: Dan is Married!
  • Dan and Lesya said their vows in Kherson, Ukraine! There will be a celebration this summer in Ukraine. Congratulations, Dan and Lesya! We can't wait to come see you. We wish you much happiness in your life together!



  • March 17th - 21st, 2004: New Orleans
  • Melanie and I went to New Orleans for Melanie's Spring Break. We met up with Valerie and Phil and had a great time! We took an airboat tour of the swamp, ate beignets, drank Hurricane's at Pat O'Brien's, walked on Bourbon Street, gambled at Harrah's Casino, and spent time with Melanie's family.



  • February 21st 2004: Skiing
  • Melanie and I went up to Whitetail Mountain Resort for a day of skiing. It was basically Melanie's first time on the slopes. She did really well!



  • December 19th - 30th 2003: Christmas
  • We were able to go to SC and CA this Christmas. We had such a great time! As a Christmas present, Melanie and I got a trip to New Orleans in March and Hawaii in May. We also were able to see the new winery when we visited Napa Valley with my family. Thanks Parents!



  • Nov 24th - 29th, 2003: Thanksgiving
  • We went down to Hilton Head, SC for Thanksgiving this year. We had a very relaxing holiday with Valerie, Phil, Steve, and Dave. Steve brought Foxy, his one and a half year old rottweiler, and she and Chase had a grand time. It was a lot of fun letting the puppies run wild on the beach!



  • November 8th, 2003: Great Falls
  • Melanie and I went to Great Falls, VA with Nick and Hilary to see some of the spectacular views.



  • Oct 10th - 13th, 2003: Golf Tournament
  • I went down to Santee, South Carolina for a four day golf tournament on Oct 10-13. It was a lot of fun. I shot a 94, which is a personal best. Four days, 36 holes a day. I had to squeeze in as much golf as I could before it starts getting cold up here in VA.


  • Aug 22nd, 2003: Melanie's Whitecoat Ceremony
  • Melanie had her Whitecoat Ceremony today signifying her entrance into Medical School! Five years from now she will be Dr. McMinn.


  • Aug 1st, 2003: Pick Up Chase
  • We went back to Churchville to pick up Chase! He was a little nervous on the ride home but overall not too upset. He slept pretty well the first night, which we were happy about. This is the most photographed puppy on the planet, I'm sure of it


  • July 12th, 2003: Chase
  • We went out to Churchville, VA today to take our first look at Chase, our soon to be pet Labrador retriever! The breeder is www.spiceoflifelabs.com. Here are a few photos of Chase. Right now, he is 4 weeks old and we will pick him up and take him home when he is about 8 weeks old.



  • June 21th-28th, 2003: Jamaica
  • We took a weeklong vacation to Jamaica this week. We went with Melanie's whole family to the Holiday Inn resort at Montego Bay. We kayaked, golfed, played tennis, climbed waterfalls, laid on the beach, drank rum punch, and just had a very relaxing and fun week. Thanks Valerie!


  • April 30th, 2003: Homeowners
  • Because we will be in the D.C. area for at least 5 years, we decided we really wanted to find a house to live in instead of continuing to rent. After only two weeks, we found a house that we really liked in Fairfax and put an offer in on it and the sellers accepted! It is perfect for our first home. It is a two story townhouse with a small fenced in backyard (for the soon to be pet yellow labrador retriever) and three bedrooms.


  • April 14th, 2003: Melanie is accepted to Medical School!
  • Melanie received an acceptance letter from a medical school in Washington D.C.! It was one of her top two choices, so we were really excited. Classes will begin August, 2003. Since Melanie will be going to med school in D.C. for the next 5 years, it looks like we will be staying in the D.C. area for at least that long, which is great because we really like living here!


  • February 16th, 2003: Snowstorm
  • 20" of snow fell in a day and a half and put northern VA in a state of emergency. The weather completely shut down the whole area. We didn't have any problems though. We just stayed indoors and watched movies.



  • December 31st, 2002: New Years Eve in New York
  • Melanie and I went up to New York for New Years Eve. We met up with John, Ginna, Rachel and Karen and tried to get as close to Times Square as we could. The closest we could get was Central Park! It was still a great time and an unforgettable experience.


  • August 14th, 2002: First Day of Work and New Apartment
  • I started my first day of work at AMS and Melanie and I moved into our new apartment in Fairfax, VA. After travelling all over the world this past summer it will be nice to stay in one place for a little while.


  • May 26th, 2002: Wedding
  • Melanie and I were married on May 26th! Valerie planned an AMAZING wedding weekend and everyone had a blast. There was so much going on that it is all kind of a blur now. Thanks to all the friends and family who could make it and thanks to Valerie for organizing such a fun and memorable weekend!



  • April 24, 2002: Last Day of Classes...ever
  • Finished my last undergraduate course at Duke. It went by so fast!


  • March 10th, 2002: ACC Champs!
  • I went to Charlotte for the ACC tournament and after we beat UNC and Wake Forest, we beat NC State to become ACC Champs for the fourth year in a row. That's a new record. I took pictures, but none of them were particularly great except the picture of the blown tire we had on the way up there that delayed us 1 1/2 hours.



  • January 4th, 2002: Accepted Job Offer
  • I accepted a job offer from AMS for a consulting position. The company is located in Fairfax, VA.


  • September 15, 2001: Officially Engaged
  • Melanie and I are officially engaged! I proposed on the evening of the 15th. The wedding is going to be May 26th, 2002 in Columbia, SC.
